From Nana's Kitchen: Holiday Favorites
INGREDIENTS
- 2 quarts dry red wine
- 2 quarts muscatel wine
- 1 pint sweet vermouth
- 2 Tbsp angostino bitters
- 2 cups raisins
- Grated rind of one orange
- 12 whole cardamoms crushed with mortar
- 10 whole cloves
- 1 2-inch pieve of fresh ginger
- 1 large cinnamon stick
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 cups whole almonds, blanched and peeled
- 12 ounces aquavite (optional)
METHODS
- Mix all but sugar, aquavit and almonds--let stand 12 hours.
- Before serving, add sugar and aquavit, as soon as mixture boils over high heat, remove and add almonds.
- Serve in mugs.
