Let the dough rest before each kneading.

  1. Melt butter, mix with sugar to dissolve, add scalded milk.
  2. Cool and add yeast dissolved in ½ cup warm water.
  3. Add salt and 4 cups flour and let it rise for 2 hours or until doubled in bulk.
  4. Punch down. Add cardamon, fruits and nuts and 4 more cups of flour.
  5. Work in another cup, kneading bread until it is no longer too moist.
  6. Let it rise again until doubled - 2 or 3 hours.
  7. Punch down again and knead slightly before shaping into loaves. Let loaves rise - 2 or 3 hours.
  8. Bake for 45-55 minutes at 175˚C.
  9. Glaze with confectioners sugar and milk if desired.
